I have handled many patent applications of Japanese clients to Asian countries such as China, Taiwan, and Korea with foreign attorneys. I know several patent attorneys of China, Taiwan, and Korea.
In paticular, since I lived in Shanghai in 2005 to 2006, I have good relationship with Chinese patent attorneys.
Patent laws of China, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan are similar to each other, but there are some differences.
Applicants have to check due dates and so on crucial to getting patent in each country. For example, the due dates of request for examination are different among China, Taiwan, and Korea. The due date in Taiwan is the same as one in Japan, that is the day after 3 years from filing date. However, the due date in China is the day after 3 years from priority date, and the one in Korea is the day after 5 years from filing date.
